How is your bike's value calculated?
Our method follows the principle of a professional price guide: start from the new purchase price and apply transparent coefficients for each criterion that drives second-hand value. No black box — every coefficient is shown in the calculation detail.
The 5 criteria
Purchase price
The new price on the invoice. It is the base of the whole calculation: a used bike is valued as a percentage of its new price.
Brand
Some brands hold their value better thanks to reputation, dealer network and spare-parts availability. A Brompton or a Moustache depreciates slower than a supermarket bike.
Year
Depreciation is steep the first year (−25 to −30%), then slows down. After 10 years, value stabilises around 20% of the new price for a maintained bike.
Mileage
On a regular bike, wear hits the drivetrain. On an e-bike, mileage matters more: it reflects battery charge cycles — the most expensive component.
Condition
A maintained bike with invoices sells much better. Conversely, a bike needing repairs loses up to 35% of its value.
The formula
Value = purchase price × type coefficient × brand coefficient × year coefficient × mileage coefficient × condition coefficient. The shop trade-in price then deducts €150 of reconditioning (labour, wear parts, warranty) — the average cost to put a bike back on sale (€250 for a motorcycle: service, tyres, consumables).
Frequently asked questions
Why a range rather than a single price?
Two bikes identical on paper can differ by 15% depending on real maintenance, region and season. The ±8% range reflects the reality of the second-hand market.
Why is the trade-in price lower than the private-sale value?
A shop reconditions the bike (≈€150), warranties it and carries the risk of not selling it. In exchange, the sale is immediate and hassle-free.
Why does an e-bike depreciate faster than a regular bike?
The battery loses capacity with every charge cycle and costs €400–800 to replace. The technology (motor, electronics) also evolves faster.
Does the estimate commit me to anything?
No. It is a free information tool, no sign-up required. It gives you a realistic base to sell, buy or negotiate a trade-in.
Where do the coefficients come from?
From a valuation method built in a workshop: real trade-in and resale data by segment and brand, refined with our technical documentation base.
