Question 1

What oil for Yamaha Tracer 700 oil change?

Accepted Answer

The Yamaha Tracer 700 uses 10W-40 JASO MA2 oil (recommended: Yamalube 4 or Motul 7100). Capacity: 2.4 L simple drain, 2.7 L with filter. Change every 10,000 km or 1 year. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 2

What is the valve clearance for Yamaha Tracer 700?

Accepted Answer

Cold valve clearance: intake 0.11-0.20 mm, exhaust 0.21-0.30 mm. Check every 40,000 km — the CP2 is known to stay within tolerance for a very long time. Shim-type adjustment. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 3

What chain slack for Yamaha Tracer 700?

Accepted Answer

Chain slack: 35-45 mm measured midway between sprockets, bike on side stand. 525 chain, 108 links. Lubricate every 500 km, essential for intensive road use. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 4

What spark plugs for Yamaha Tracer 700?

Accepted Answer

Spark plugs: NGK LMAR8A-9 (x2), same as MT-07 and Tenere 700 (same CP2 engine). Gap: 0.80-0.90 mm. Replace every 20,000 km. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 5

Is the Tracer 700 suspension a weak point?

Accepted Answer

It is the main criticism: soft, under-damped stock fork, rear shock tiring around 30,000-40,000 km, especially loaded two-up with luggage. Common fixes: progressive fork springs + heavier oil (~150 euros), aftermarket shock. The 2020 model noticeably improved the fork. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 6

Is the Tracer 700 a good used buy?

Accepted Answer

Yes: the CP2 is nearly indestructible (examples above 100,000 km), fuel consumption stays around 4.5 L/100 km and maintenance is cheap. Check fastener corrosion (winter bikes), shock condition and the service book. Depreciation is low because the replacement (Tracer 7) pushed new prices up. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.
