Stihl MS 261 2-stroke oil mix: exact ratio and recommended oil

Official Stihl MS 261 ratio

The Stihl MS 261 (all versions: standard, C-M, C-MQ) uses a 1:50 mix ratio — 20 ml oil per 1 liter of fuel.

This is the standard Stihl ratio for ALL modern 2-stroke engines (MS 170 to MS 881).

Which oil to use?

  • Stihl HP Ultra (~$20/L) — synthetic, best option
  • Stihl HP Super (~$15/L) — semi-synthetic, great value
  • Motul 800 2T — competition grade, excellent but expensive

Always use JASO FD or ISO-L-EGD certified oil. Generic "2-stroke" oils from gas stations will clog the piston and exhaust.

2 L40 ml
5 L100 ml

Mistakes that kill the engine

  • Too much oil (1:25): plug fouling, carbon buildup
  • Too little oil (1:100): overheating, piston seizure
  • Old mix (> 30 days): fuel degrades, oil separates
