SP95 or E10 for a 2-stroke engine: which fuel to choose

The ethanol problem

Since 2022, classic SP95 has nearly disappeared from European stations. What you find now:

  • SP95-E10: up to 10% ethanol
  • SP98-E5: up to 5% ethanol

Ethanol is an alcohol that attacks elastomer materials (rubber, Viton) used in seals, carburetor diaphragms, and fuel lines of small 2-stroke engines.

E10 damage on your engine

  • Carburetor diaphragms swell and deform
  • Fuel lines crack
  • Gummy deposits in carburetor (varnish)
  • Aluminum corrosion
