Question 1

How to maintain the Gates CDX belt on the Gazelle Ultimate C8?

Accepted Answer

NEVER lubricate the carbon belt: rinse it with clean water when dirty and brush the pulley grooves. Check tension with the Gates Carbon Drive app (acoustic frequency measurement, target value set by Gazelle). Typical lifespan: 20,000-30,000 km, i.e. 3-4 chains' worth. Replace if teeth are missing or fibres show. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 2

What servicing does the Shimano Nexus 8 hub need?

Accepted Answer

The Nexus 8 needs internal greasing (or Shimano's oil dip) every 5000 km or 2 years, done in a workshop. Gear adjustment happens in 4th: the two yellow marks on the hub pulley must align, adjusted at the shifter barrel. A hub skipping gears is almost always a misadjusted cable, not a worn hub. Question 3

What commuting range does the Gazelle Ultimate C8 get?

Accepted Answer

With the 500 Wh PowerTube in urban use: 80-100 km in Eco, 55-75 km in Tour, 40-50 km in Turbo. A 20 km daily round trip therefore lasts 2-4 days per charge. Winter cold cuts range by 20-30%: charge indoors and start with a warm battery. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 4

Belt or chain: what is the everyday advantage?

Accepted Answer

The Gates CDX belt needs no lube, does not stain clothes, cannot rust and lasts 3-4 times longer than a chain: ideal for year-round riding in work clothes. Trade-off: a pricier replacement (~120-180 euros fitted) requiring the rear triangle to be opened, workshop job. Over time, cost per km stays below a chain's. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 5

What is a used Gazelle Ultimate C8 worth?

Accepted Answer

Expect 35-45% depreciation after 3 years, i.e. 1900-2300 euros for a C8 HMB bought at 3499 euros. Criterion no.1 is battery health: ask for a Bosch dealer diagnostic (cycle count, remaining capacity). Also check belt teeth, Nexus hub play and the integrated lighting. Gazelle's durability reputation supports resale values. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.
