Question 1

How to index the derailleur on the Specialized Allez?

Accepted Answer

First set the H (small cog) and L (big cog) limit screws without cable tension, then tension the cable and fine-tune indexing with the barrel adjuster, a quarter turn at a time. Slow upshifts to bigger cogs: add tension; slow downshifts: release tension. Also check the derailleur hanger alignment, often bent after a fall. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 2

When to replace the rims on a rim-brake Allez?

Accepted Answer

Rims carry a wear indicator (groove or drilled dot): once it disappears, replace the rim. A concave braking track is a warning sign, especially with winter riding where abrasive grit wears aluminium fast. Replace pads at their wear line and pick out embedded aluminium shards. Question 3

What bottom bracket for the Specialized Allez?

Accepted Answer

The Allez E5 uses a threaded BSA 68 mm bottom bracket (English thread 1.37" x 24 TPI), the easiest standard to service: compatible with Shimano Hollowtech II, SRAM DUB and Praxis. Torque 35-50 Nm with greased threads. A yearly removal and regrease eliminates most creaks. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 4

Can I fit an 11-32 cassette on the Allez for climbing?

Accepted Answer

Yes: the Shimano 105 R7000 GS (medium cage) officially accepts 34T, the short cage 30T. With a bigger cassette, lengthen the chain (usually 2 links) and reset the B-screw. On Claris 2x8, the medium cage takes 32T. A 32-34T sprocket transforms long climbs. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.

Question 5

What is a used Specialized Allez worth?

Accepted Answer

The Allez sells fast used since it is the reference first road bike: expect 40-50% depreciation after 3 years, i.e. 700-850 euros for an Elite bought at 1400 euros. Check: rim wear (rim brakes), derailleur hanger condition, headset play, and no impact damage on the carbon fork after a crash. Find the complete answer on L'Atelier.
