When the fuel injection light (FI) comes on in a Japanese motorcycle, all is not lost: the system records a fault code and, on many models, blinks it via the warning light or displays it on screen. Knowing how to read it saves time and avoids changing parts at random. Here's the method and the most common code families.
Reading a blink code
The most common principle: the warning light blinks in two phases — long blinks (tens) then short blinks (ones). Two long and three short = 23. Some models display a code directly on screen, others require bridging a diagnostic connector (DLC) to enter read mode. The exact procedure depends on the model: refer to the manual or ask the mechanic AI for your machine.
Code families, by sensor
Regardless of brand, codes almost always point to a sensor or an actuator. The recurring families:

The exact number varies by brand and model (Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki don't use the same numbering), but the type of fault reads within these broad families. A "throttle sensor" code points to the sensor and air intake, a "tilt sensor" code typically appears after a crash and resets itself.
