4-cylinder motorcycle cylinder head torque: the tightening sequence

Why a sequence

A 4-cylinder cylinder head is flat and long (250-300 mm). Tightening out of order warps the gasket plane.

Method

Number screws 1-10 from center spiraling outward. Tighten in 3 passes: 30%, 60%, 100% of final torque. Some bikes (Yamaha R1, Kawasaki ZX-6R) need a 4th pass at +90° angle.

Ask the AI mechanic — share your exact model (brand, gen, year), the AI returns the precise sequence and torque from the workshop manual.
