Selling a used e-bike: price, depreciation and pitfalls

The second-hand e-bike market is booming, but sellers navigate blind: too expensive, the listing collects dust; too cheap, you get taken for a ride. The key is understanding what really drives the price of a used e-bike — and the battery is at the heart of it.
The battery decides everything
On an e-bike, the battery makes up a huge part of the value. A savvy buyer will ask:
The number of cycles (often visible in the app or via diagnostics).
A battery in good condition is a major selling point; a tired battery must be reflected in the price, or you risk scaring off serious buyers.
E-bike depreciation
Like any bike, an e-bike depreciates most in the first year. After that, battery condition and maintenance drive the value. A motor from a brand with good service network availability (spare parts) resells better than an exotic system that's hard to fix.
Look after the listing (it's worth money)
Sharp photos of a clean bike from several angles, plus a photo of the screen powered on.
Honesty about defects: it builds trust and avoids endless negotiation.
Setting the right price
Don't just take the new price and subtract a random percentage. Compare identical e-bikes (same model, same year, same battery condition) that actually sold.

I'm selling my 2-year-old city e-bike, the battery still holds well. How do I set the price?

Good news: a still-healthy battery is your best argument, highlight it with the cycle count and real-world range. Start from listings of the same model and year, not the new price. Care for the photos and be transparent about any issues: it speeds up the sale and limits haggling. A motor from a brand with good service support resells better.
