Verified on 16 October 2026 on the official page "Aides à l'achat d'un vélo à assistance électrique" of the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, and on the summary published by France Travail. The official page still refers to the 2025 allocation rules: re-read it before buying, as 2026 rules may change a detail.
Strasbourg has ranked among France's most bike-friendly cities for years, and the Eurométropole (the 33-municipality metropolitan authority) supports e-bike purchases with a simple scheme: an amount based on your income, an electric cargo bike grant for everyone, and a small grant to electrify an existing bike. The catch: you must buy from a partner shop and apply quickly.
The amounts
| Bike | Amount | Means test |
|---|---|---|
| New e-bike "for urban use" | €300 to €500 | Reference taxable income (RFR) per share up to €26,200 |
| New electric cargo bike | €500 | None |
| Motorising a standard bike (new or used) | €150 | RFR per share up to €26,200 |
For e-bikes, the official page gives the €300-500 range and three income bands (reference taxable income per tax share). The split reported by several sites, and consistent with that range, is:
| RFR per share | Grant for a new e-bike |
|---|---|
| Under €7,500 | €500 |
| €7,500 to €16,300 | €400 |
| €16,300 to €26,200 | €300 |
| Above €26,200 | €0 (except new electric cargo) |
We could not re-read the rules themselves (link broken on 16 October): treat the per-band amount as to be confirmed on the website when you apply.
How to calculate RFR per share: your reference taxable income (first page of your French tax notice) divided by your number of tax shares. A couple with two children (3 shares) with €45,000 RFR is at €15,000 per share: the middle band.
Who is eligible?
- Be 18 or over.
- Have your main residence in one of the 33 municipalities of the Eurométropole.
- Buy from an approved "Partenaire Véloptimiste" (dealer-repairer). Online purchases or non-partner superstores are excluded.
- Apply within 3 months of purchase.
And two commitments:
- The grant is given only once per person, for one item, over a 5-year period according to France Travail.
- You undertake not to sell the subsidised bike for 3 years.
Which bikes?
The scheme targets new e-bikes for urban use: city bike, folding e-bike, electric cargo bike. A €5,000 electric mountain bike is not the core target; ask the partner shop whether your model qualifies. The bike must be a pedelec in the strict sense — 250 W, assistance cut at 25 km/h — with its type-approval certificate. Speed pedelecs (45 km/h) are mopeds and are not covered: see our 25 vs 45 km/h article.
Second-hand is only supported for motorisation: you can electrify a used bike and receive €150, but not buy a used e-bike with the grant.
How to apply, step by step
- Calculate your RFR per share and find your band.
- Find a Partenaire Véloptimiste on the Eurométropole page and buy there. Ask for an invoice in your name.
- Get the bike's type-approval certificate.
- Gather: ID, proof of address, tax notice, bank details (RIB), invoice.
- Submit your file on the Eurométropole grants portal (aides.strasbourg.eu) within 3 months. An incomplete file cannot be approved.
- The grant is paid into your account once the file has been processed.
All documents must show the same name and address: it is the most common reason for refusal everywhere in France.
Combining with other grants
| Grant | Combinable? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| National bike bonus | It no longer exists | Abolished on 14 February 2025 |
| Sustainable mobility allowance | Yes | Not a purchase grant: paid by the employer |
| Your municipality's grant | To check | We found no active municipal grant for 2026 |
| Grand Est Region, Collectivité d'Alsace | Not confirmed | No grant for individuals found on the pages consulted |
The sustainable mobility allowance (forfait mobilités durables: up to €600 a year, €900 combined with a CTS transport pass) is the most useful extra if your employer offers it. Details in the national overview.
