The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) is one of the most unique motorcycle events in the world. On a Sunday in May, tens of thousands of riders in over 100 countries mount their classic and vintage motorcycles, don their finest suits, and ride together to raise awareness for men's health. It's the perfect intersection of motorcycle passion, elegance and solidarity.
The DGR Concept
The DGR was created in 2012 in Sydney by Mark Hawwa, inspired by a photo of Don Draper (Mad Men) on a classic motorcycle. The idea: use the positive image of classic bikes and dapper dressing to change the conversation around men's mental health and prostate cancer.
Since its creation, the DGR has raised over $37 million for the Movember Foundation. In 2025, over 100,000 participants in 900 cities rode on the same day. The 2026 edition promises to be even bigger.
The Dress Code
The DGR is the only motorcycle event where your outfit matters as much as your ride. The dress code is clear: elegant and distinguished attire. Classics include:
- Three-piece suit: the ultimate classic. Tweed, wool or linen depending on weather.
- Blazer + chinos: the smart-casual option.
- Bow tie or tie: morally mandatory.
- Leather shoes: brogues, Chelsea boots, or classic boots.
- Moustache: strongly encouraged (it's for Movember after all).
- Retro helmet: jet style, Biltwell, Ruby or Bell Custom 500.
Women are absolutely welcome and bring their own style: vintage dresses, pencil skirts, tailored suits. The DGR is inclusive and celebrates elegance in all its forms.
The Bikes: Style First
The DGR isn't open to all motorcycles. Only classic and vintage styles are accepted:
- Cafe racer: the DGR star. Clip-ons, single seat, clean lines. Examples: Triumph Thruxton, Honda CB, Yamaha XSR.
- Classic/Heritage: original or restored classics. Royal Enfield, Moto Guzzi V7, BMW R nineT.
- Scrambler: retro off-road style. Ducati Scrambler, Triumph Scrambler 1200.
- Bobber/Chopper: old-school custom. Triumph Bobber, Indian Scout Bobber.
- Tracker: flat-track style. Indian FTR, Yamaha XSR700.
Modern sportbikes, adventure bikes and scooters are not accepted. Aesthetics are part of the event.
