The match of two references
On the road, two clipless pedal standards share 90% of the market: Look Keo and Shimano SPD-SL. Both have their fans and their limits. Here's an honest comparison after 8 years working on both systems.
Look Keo: the historic choice
- Wide flat cleat (60mm), good pedal-stroke stability
- Adjustable tension on Keo 2 Max and up
- 3 cleat hardnesses: grey (9°), black (0°), red (4.5°)
- Weight: ~125g/pair for the Keo Blade Carbon Ti
The grey cleat (9° float) is the most forgiving on the market — ideal for sensitive knees. Large contact surface = gentle pressure distribution.
Downside: the cleat wears fast if you walk on it. Expect 6 months for regular use without walking covers.
