E-bike subsidy 2026: up to €900 in aid — how to get it

National e-bike subsidy 2026

The French government offers a bonus for purchasing a new e-bike. Amounts and conditions have evolved:

Who is eligible?

  • Adults residing in France
  • Tax reference income (RFR) per share below a certain threshold
  • The bike must be new, purchased from a professional in France
  • The bike must not be resold within the year following purchase

2026 amounts

Tax income / shareStandard e-bike bonusCargo / adapted e-bike bonus
≤ €7,100€400€2,000
≤ €15,400€300€1,000
> €15,400€0€0
Important: the national bonus cannot exceed 40% of the purchase price including tax.

How to claim it?

  1. Buy your e-bike from a professional (invoice required)
  2. Go to primealaconversion.gouv.fr
  3. Create your account and fill in the form
  4. Attach: invoice, ID, proof of address, tax notice
  5. The bonus is paid by bank transfer within 2-4 weeks

Regional subsidies (stackable)

In addition to the national bonus, most regions and cities offer their own subsidies. They are stackable with the national bonus.

Region / CityMax amountConditions
Ile-de-France€500 (e-bike) / €600 (cargo)Reside in IDF, new bike
Paris€400Reside in Paris
Lyon Metro€500Reside in Greater Lyon, RFR ≤ €35,000
Toulouse Metro€250Reside in metro area
Nantes Metro€300Reside in metro area
Strasbourg Eurometropole€500Reside in metro area
Amounts change frequently. Check your local authority's website before buying.

Sustainable mobility package (FMD)

This is the most underrated benefit. If you use your bike to commute:

  • Amount: up to €800/year tax-exempt
  • Who pays: your employer (optional but increasingly common)
  • Stackable: with public transport reimbursement (up to €800/year total)
  • Proof: self-declaration or employer certificate
Even if your employer doesn't offer it yet, you can ask. In 2026, 42% of companies with 50+ employees offer the FMD.

Maximum stacking: a real example

Take a €2,000 e-bike for an employee in Ile-de-France with RFR ≤ €7,100:

SubsidyAmount
National bonus€400
Ile-de-France subsidy€500
Paris city subsidy€400
Total subsidies€1,300
Out of pocket€700

With the employer's FMD (€400/year), the bike is "paid off" in less than 2 years.

Common mistakes

  • Buying before checking conditions: some subsidies require the bike to be purchased AFTER the application
  • Forgetting the local subsidy: many people only claim the national bonus
  • Buying used: the national bonus only applies to new bikes (some local subsidies accept used)
  • Not keeping the invoice: it must mention brand, model, serial number and price including tax
  • Reselling within the year: this cancels the bonus

Eligible bikes

  • Standard e-bike: electric-assist bicycle limited to 25 km/h, power ≤ 250 W
  • Cargo e-bike: electric cargo bike (bakfiets, longtail)
  • Adapted bike: bike for people with reduced mobility
  • Speed pedelec: NOT eligible for the bike bonus (it's a moped)
